Whether it be on forums taking part in the latest threads, at gear stores looking for sales on the right stuff, or checking out other hikers hiking blogs, I tend to spend a fair amount of time on the internet/computer. But hey I have to do something when work doesn’t allow me to get out on the trail…
One blog that I have grown fond of very quickly and have been keeping up with the last few weeks is Wallace Hunter and his wife’s/hiking partners blog, Hike, Bike, Dale!
Over the last few weeks he has posted numerous video reviews of gear that he has accumulated and even some DIY gear, as well as some in-depth food preparation reviews. I love video reviews so keeping up with his blog has been a real joy for me, but, the real joy I have found in his blog is watching him do all of this in preparation for his upcoming AT thru hike which will begin in only a few short weeks.
It has been interesting watching some of his last videos because you can see how the realization of the endeavor in which he is about to embark upon is coming upon him. You can see and hear the anxiety, the stress, and maybe even a little fear creeping in. In his last video he talks at the end and states that he is ready for all the stressful times to be over and that he be to the point in which he is about to be on the trail (paraphrasing).
At this point I cannot understand all that I would be doing the last few weeks before I hit the trail…no job, making arrangements for the trip as well as bills or other events that will occur while I am on the trail. So watching his videos has been a very welcome experience for me. Seeing the gear he chose for his adventure and why he chose it as well as hearing his thoughts about the trip has been great. And for anyone who is anticipating an AT thru hike (or maybe any long distance thru hike) I would suggest you check out his site.
And Wallace, I hope you and your wife the very best while on your trip! Maybe someday I will get to meet you on the trail
